Tsuba - Mumei Sukashi

Description:

Sukashi Flower, Family mon in Gold inlay. The two hitsuana are carefully closed for preservation. When you look closer there is residue of black laquer present on the surface. Probably the item was painted black originally.

The Tsuba is originated in Japan and was part of the well known collection of Prof. Dr. Karl Adolf Florenz (1865-1939), who teached german in Japan and returned before WW2 to Germany. He was the first european professor for Japanology within Europe in 1914. The Tsuba collection survived the burndown of his house in 1943 after his death and the collection was kept by his family, later split and sold through several auction houses.
