Tsuba - Kachuchi (甲冑師) NBTHK certified as Hozon (保存). The design is a very old one showing twelve (12) arrows pointing outwards guided by yasurime rays like seen on amida Buddha images. The rim (Mimi) was refined with silver inlays (Nunome) which are rarely seen in these early Tsuba, reflecting light in an attractive way. Made by armorers classified as Kachuchi by NBTHK Tokio in 2023. This Tsuba is a unique reference piece.

Marque: Choshu Hagi-ju Inoue Kiyotaka

I am offering this wonderful Tsuba made by Choshu Hagi-ju Inoue Kiyotaka (長州萩住 井上清高作) who is a famous maker with several Juyo an tokubetsu hozon rated Tsuba.

Lived at Hagi in Nagato province / Made by Inouye Kiyotaka.

He is considered as the first master of Inoue school after the ancestor Hisamitsu. The Name of Kiyotaka was Juzaemon, later Shozaemon and he lived 1722-1790.

Design

The design shows chrysanthenum and vine rouge with lots and lots of detail in very realistic carving.

suba - Kō-Kinkō - Battle of Genpai. Made in between the years 1360-1600 in Japan.

Battle scene in deep water. Possibly the „Battle of Genpai" - two samurai warriors with their naginata weapons on driftwood crossing stormy sea waves. The material is called kinkö which is blackened on the surface to become shakudö.

Tsuba Akasaka (赤坂) probably made by one Akasaka Masters around the VII Generation. Motive showing Chrysanthemum Leaves and Blossoms, one is opened and another one is about to bloom. The design is perfectionating the designs of Kikumon of earlier Akasaka works combining it with the temporary art influence. Stilistically well done.

The Tsuba is relatively small and petite, so safe for a tanto or Wakizashi - has a nice Shakudo fukurin - often also to be found at Muromachi Tsuba. The material is a copper alloy - reminds of Yamagane towards Suaka.
